Hundreds of jobs on offer thanks to Helena

Helena's recent jobs fair brought together employers in the logistics and warehousing industry to offer local people hundreds of jobs in the sector.

Throughout the day, which was funded by Helena, the Liverpool City Region National Apprenticeship Scheme and the European Social Fund, job seekers had the chance to meet employers in person as well as find out more about training opportunities.

Stephen Dancer, 58, said: "I came here hoping to find a job, and not only have I done that, I've also been offered lots of help and advice too. I've only been unemployed for a few weeks but already Helena has helped me back into work, which just shows how much they care for customers like me."

Stephen will shortly undertake training before starting a full-time warehousing job with a popular supermarket.

Attendees also gained first-hand experience of what a future job would be like by trying out forklift trucks and testing their existing knowledge by completing the HGV drivers' hazard perception test.

Roy Williams, Neighbourhood Employment Co-Ordinator, said: "By working with local, regional and national employers we are able to offer a wide range of opportunities and help to further break down the barriers our customers face everyday when looking for employment."

One employer, Julie Garfield from the Job Gym at Mantra Learning, added: "Working with Helena has given us the chance to meet so many local people and raise awareness of how the Job Gym offer can help job seekers back into work. Often training is the first step to finding your future job and an event like this is the ideal place to start."

Other organisations attending the event included Express Direct Training, LearnDirect, Starting Point, St Helens College, Merseytravel, Freight First, the Army Reserves, Peel Ports, Malcolm Logistics, Pre-Employment Programme (PEP) and Jobcentre Plus.

Cllr Keith Roberts concludes: "Helena continuously assists their customers in finding work and training, and this event is another great example of this ongoing commitment across the borough."
