Helena is chosen to help local group

A residents' group in Wargrave have chosen Helena as their trusted local authority following a £1 million award to help enrich their community.

The Wargrave Big Local group (WABL) recently secured the funding from the Big Lottery, and will now invest it in their area over the next 10 years.

After forming partnerships with the local council and health authorities as part of the application process, the group have chosen Helena to help and support them throughout the project.

Graham Ellis, Neighbourhood Initiatives Officer, said: "It's such a pleasure to be chosen as the group's trusted local authority.

This project will focus on helping young people in the area develop, help to boost employment opportunities and improve green spaces and community safety. We hope that by working together, we'll be able to make a positive impact on the Wargrave community."

Made up of a variety of residents, both from Helena and non-Helena homes, WABL worked collectively over an 18 month period to identify these key areas of activity. Using their initial funding to run a number of consultation events, the group encouraged people to have their say on the changes and improvements they would like to see made in their neighbourhoods and gauge which issues should be tackled.

Sian Jay, Wargrave Big Lottery Advisor at Social Refocus, said: "Helena has been supportive from day one and has made a significant contribution, while always ensuring the project remains the work of local people."
