Young customers launch their own website

After months of hard work, youth volunteers who work with Helena have launched a dedicated new website for young people by young people.

Funded by Helena and social enterprise Fusion21, Roomoo aims to help 16-25 year olds find work, training opportunities and advice. Unlike other job websites, Roomoo gives users the ability to build personalised online portfolios with photos, videos and links to visually showcase their skills and achievements to potential employers.

On top of this, users will also be able to create and print professional CVs, and be signposted to helpful events and organisations all over the country.

Tanya McGibbon, Neighbourhood Initiatives Officer for Young People, said: "Roomoo is a really innovative site and we hope it will help to break down the barriers between young people and the range of opportunities and support services available to them."

Produced in collaboration with a website development company and a creative agency, five young people undertook design workshops and software training, while exploring the latest technologies to make sure the website's many 'rooms' would provide users with a unique, exciting and informative experience.

Although Roomoo was pioneered for young people in St Helens, its wide range of local, regional and national jobs, information and resources can be used by anyone of any age, anywhere in the country.

Danny Sejwacz from HYV said: "I'm interested in digital technology and this project gave me a chance to really explore this area. We've been involved in creating Roomoo from day one, from the name, the look and feel of the website, how it runs and what it includes.

We wanted to create a brand new website that offers young people an edge when applying for jobs and finding new opportunities and I really think Roomoo does this. Log on you won't be disappointed."

The project group is now looking to further expand the services it offers by working with other housing associations and nationally renowned organisations such as the Prince's Trust.

Darren Charles, Marketing Manager at Fusion21, said: "This is about Fusion21 investing in social value and helping empower individuals and communities. Roomoo is a truly unique website which can help anyone, anywhere."
