Shared ownership is a long-standing, affordable way of helping people to buy a share in a property and take that first step to owning your own home.

We offer shared ownership on most of our developments. So, how does it work?
Shared ownership gives people the chance to buy a share in a new home, typically between 50% and 75%.If your circumstances change you can increase the value of your share - up to 100 per cent if you like. You pay a reduced rent on any share we still own.

With shared ownership you only need to raise a deposit on the share that you are buying so it is more affordable. On average, in the North West, a shared owner needs a deposit of £11,894 compared to the average first-time buyer deposit of £23,362. (I've moved this bit from shared equity as the figure applies to shared ownership)

It's just like buying any other house - so you'll still have to organise a mortgage, and pay legal fees and stamp duty (currently payable on properties worth over £125,000). But instead of buying the whole house, you buy a share. If you want to sell you must offer us the chance to buy your share back first. If we decide not to, you can sell your share on the open market.

Shared Ownership is primarily aimed at first-time buyers, however, can help many other people buy a home, including older people who want to downsize.
